Item Modifiers allow restaurants to add customization options to specific menu items. For example, a pizza may have modifiers like extra cheese, choice of crust, or sauce preference. These modifiers enhance customer flexibility and improve the ordering experience.

They are always linked to a Modifier Group (like “Pizza Toppings” or “Spice Level”) and applied to individual menu items.

Why are Item Modifiers Important?

  • Customization – Guests can personalize their orders.
  • Flexibility – Restaurants can add optional or required choices.
  • Accuracy – Ensures staff capture exact customer preferences.
  • Upselling – Add-ons like “extra cheese” or “drinks combo” boost revenue.

How to Add an Item Modifier

  1. Go to Menu > Item Modifiers.
  1. Click Add Item Modifier from the right side pane.
  2. Select the Menu Item on which you want to apply the item level modifier.
  3. Choose the Modifier Group (e.g., “Pizza Toppings”) from the dropdown too.
  4. While adding Item Modifiers and Configuring the option understand below few checkboxes
  • By ticking Allow Multiple Selection,  customers can select more than one option.
  • Is Required can be checked when customers must choose one option before adding to order.
  1. Click Save to apply.

Example:
For Masala Dosa, you can add a Modifier Group like Chutney Choices (Coconut, Tomato, Peanut).

Relations with Other Modules

  • Menu Items – Modifiers are always attached to items (not categories directly).
  • Modifier Groups – Must be created first before linking to an item.
  • Orders & Billing – Modifiers directly impact customer orders and final bill amounts.

Summary

Item Modifiers help restaurants offer flexible, customizable, and upsell-friendly ordering. By linking modifier groups to menu items, restaurants can improve customer satisfaction and streamline order accuracy.
