ANPR based entry

ANPR-based entry is an automated entry and exit method in SISTEM that uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to detect vehicles without manual intervention.

Cameras capture vehicle number plates at entry and exit points, and SISTEM automatically creates and closes vehicle sessions based on these detections.

This method is designed for high-throughput, low-friction parking operations where speed, accuracy, and minimal human dependency are critical.

When ANPR-based entry is used

ANPR-based entry is commonly used for:

  • Commercial parking facilities with high daily traffic
  • Malls, airports, and hospitals
  • Smart city and public parking projects
  • Office campuses with mixed access (walk-in and pass holders)
  • Locations aiming for fully automated operations

It is best suited for environments where physical infrastructure (cameras and network connectivity) is available.

What problem ANPR-based entry solves

Manual or semi-manual parking operations face limitations:

  • Operator dependency at entry and exit
  • Slower vehicle flow during peak hours
  • Human errors in vehicle number entry
  • Limited scalability for large facilities

ANPR-based entry addresses these by:

  • Automating vehicle detection
  • Eliminating manual data entry
  • Improving accuracy of session creation
  • Supporting large-scale, continuous operations

How ANPR-based entry works in SISTEM

ANPR-based entry integrates hardware-level detections with SISTEM’s operational layer.

At a high level:

  1. ANPR cameras detect vehicle number plates
  2. Detection data is sent to SISTEM
  3. SISTEM creates or updates vehicle sessions automatically
  4. Pricing, passes, and rules are applied based on configuration

No operator action is required for standard entry and exit flows.

Before enabling ANPR-based entry

To use ANPR-based entry, the following must be in place:

  • An active parking in SISTEM
  • Vehicle types and pricing configured
  • Entry and exit points identified
  • Supported ANPR cameras installed onsite
  • Network connectivity between cameras and SISTEM

ANPR works best when camera placement and lighting conditions are properly planned.

Integrating ANPR with SISTEM

Step 1: Enable ANPR entry method

  • Log in as an admin.
  • Go to Parking settings.
  • Enable ANPR-based entry for the parking.

Step 2: Configure camera entry points

  • Define whether each camera is an Entry camera, Exit camera, or Both
  • Map cameras to the correct parking location
  • Assign logical entry or exit lanes if applicable

This mapping ensures SISTEM understands how detections should be interpreted.

Step 3: Connect ANPR data to SISTEM

  • Configure API or integration credentials provided by SISTEM
  • Ensure vehicle number, timestamp, and camera ID are sent
  • Validate successful data flow using test detections

Once connected, SISTEM begins listening for real-time detections.

Operator workflow for ANPR-based entry

Although ANPR-based entry is automated, operators still play a critical role in monitoring, exception handling, and accuracy checks.

Step 1: Capture live vehicle sessions

  • Open Vehicle sessions from the operator app or dashboard
  • View sessions created automatically by ANPR
  • Identify sessions marked with entry mode ANPR
  • Monitor entry time, duration, and current status (active or exited)

This helps operators keep real-time awareness of parking activity.

Step 2: Verify vehicle number recognition

Verify information if,

  • The number plate is partially unreadable
  • Camera captures are unclear
  • Multiple similar plates are detected

Operators should:

  • Open the session details
  • Verify the detected vehicle number
  • Correct the number plate if required (based on permissions)

Corrections are logged for audit purposes.

Step 3: Assist customers with payment or disputes

  • View the full parking timeline
  • Explain entry and exit timings
  • Confirm applied pricing or pass rules
  • Escalate disputes to managers if required

This keeps customer interactions smooth even in automated setups.

Step 5: Escalate technical issues

If operators notice:

  • Missing entries or exits
  • Delayed session creation
  • Repeated recognition errors

They should:

  • Flag the issue to parking managers
  • Continue temporary manual handling if enabled
  • Avoid deleting sessions unless instructed

This ensures continuity while technical checks are performed.

Step 6: Handle exit exceptions

If an exit is not detected automatically:

  • Locate the active session in Vehicle sessions
  • Confirm vehicle exit visually
  • Manually close the session if permitted

SISTEM recalculates duration and pricing automatically after closure.

ANPR with passes and pricing

ANPR-based entry works seamlessly with:

  • Walk-in vehicles
  • Active parking passes
  • Subscriptions or long-term permits

If a detected vehicle has:

  • An active pass → pass rules are applied
  • No pass → standard pricing rules apply

This logic is handled automatically by SISTEM.

Benefits of ANPR-based entry

ANPR-based entry provides:

  • Faster vehicle flow
  • Reduced operator workload
  • Higher data accuracy
  • Better scalability for large facilities
  • Improved customer experience

It is the most efficient entry method for high-volume parking operations.

Designed to work with other entry methods

ANPR-based entry can operate alongside:

  • Manual entry
  • Pass-based entry

SISTEM uses a unified session model, ensuring all entry methods produce consistent data and reports.
